A- bullied and punished, continually, every nerve feared him, flesh, bones shrank, bewildered, terror, menaces, inflictions, young master, strike, abuse me, in her presence, behind back
I- all the words and phrases give a sense that the narrator is deathly afraid of somebody, because the words like bullied, punished, and terror. All the words show this is how a certain character is, and it will probably come up many times through out the novel.

A-Scarcely knew, place, expected, genteel, precise, discipline, accomplishments, paintings, flowers, landscapes, French books, translate, executed, precision, chance, journey, separation.
I- in this part, Jane is talking about school. It is interesting to me, how she describes it at first almost sounding afraid of it, but afterwards thinking it would be a good change.

I- I think its crazy how this man is interrogating her like this. It seems like hes talking down to her a lot. It is also strange that their talk is purely about religion. He makes her feel like shes such a bad child, and its sad. Jane feels upset because of all the bad things said about her.

I-The way this sounds as if Miss. Temple is a very important character, mostly because she was described in such great detail. I think she is going to play a big part in the story, because of the detail in which she was described.

I-I am so surprised that Mr. Brocklehurst said all of this about her, especially in front of everyone! I didn't think he would actually believe the things that Mrs. Reed said. And i certainly didn't think he would embarrass her in front of everybody. It is shown that he is easily influenced, and can be persuaded by others.

I-Jane probably really feels alone, because she hasn't been really close to anybody or felt love, and now at her new school, she was publicly humiliated. She feels alone because she feels nobody is there for her. I thought it was really nice when Helen Burns goes up and talks to her, i think they are going to be good friends, because they are both lonely.

I- IT is sad that Helen is dying. Jane probably will feel terrible and sad. This will greatly affect her, because Helen was her first friend. She was the only one who was nice to her. They had many memories together, and Helen introduced her to Mrs. Temple, a character who i think will play a significant role as a mother figure for Jane.

I-Jane is so suprised that Mrs. Fairfox is being so nice to her, sinces shes not used to any other nice treatment from other people in her life. At Lowood school, the headmaster was never nice to her, and when she was a child she was only treated nice by the servant Bessie.

I- In this secen the maid is telling Jane how Mr. Rochester's personality is, so she can kind of know what to expect. Since she is telling Jane that he is hard to understnad, i think she is going to try harder to understand him. I think she will even start to like him, because she will spend time trying to figure him out.

I- It seems like Mr.Rochester is being a little mean to JAne. Not extremely mean, but very harsh in his judgements. This shows the gender roles of the time, where the men acted superior over the women, and the women were expected to know different languages, to paint and play instruments, just to be considered decent by a man.

I- It is interesting how forward Mr. ROchester is with Jane, he describes her as basically a very shy person, and this is rerinforced when he says her eyes are bent, looking down is oftentimes a sign of intimidation. Its interesting that he takes notice to the fact that she was looking at him and even decides to bring it to her attention to ask if she finds him handsome.

I- Jane seems very interested in the things Mr.Rochester is saying. She is analyzing it and eralizes he has very certain oppinions about things. I predict they will have a lot of deep conversation like this one, and maybe start to become interested in eachother, because they challenge eachothers minds.

A-".....-in questioning why she had not been given into custody that morning, or at the very least dismissed from her masters service. He had almost as much as declared his conviction of her criminality last night, what mysterious cause witheld him from accusing her?"
I- It is extremely weird that he doesnt say anything about it to Grace, he also kind of wants Jane to keep it a secret, since he told her not to talk about it with anybody. I wonder why he isnt saying anything about it or making it a big deal, from his descritption he seems like the kind of guy who wouldnt put up with this kind of behavior. Maybe Grace did it because she is jealous of the thime JAne and Mr. Rochester are spending together.

I- they are getting ready for Mr. Rochesters friends to come over, they must really be some quite impressive people if they are going to all this trouble to accomidate them. It shows how their society lives, they are very class conscious, and care what others think. It seems that they are always putting on a show to umpress others.

I- it is interesting to me that Mr.ROchester is so concerned with Jane and how she feels. For being such a cold man it seems like he really is interested hin her if hes asking about her feelings ans he wants her to be around his friends. ITs even stranger though since that other lady is there and Jane seems to think something is up with them two.

I-A new man named Mr. MAson has just entered the story he is discribed as a nice lookking guy by Jane, and the others seem to like thim also. I wonder who he is and what connection he has to the story, it must be important, because he is being introduced at an important part in the story, with all of Mr.Rochesters friends there.

I-The repition of the phrases help let Rochester know that JAne really puts an emphasis on what has just happened. Something mysterious is going on that Mr.Rochester is directly involved in. What is even more interesting is that he covers it up and tells Jane that it was probably all just at nightmare. is he not taking her seriously? or trying to cover something else up?

I- It is interesting that Jane would remember something like that out of nowhere. I wonder why the dreams with babies mean something bad is going to happen? I would think that a dream with a baby, would be a good dream, because it symbolizes new life and new things to come. I guess new things arent always good for everybody. It would be almost like a new begining to me. It is interesting that here it would symbolize something bad and scary.

I- Mrs. Reed finally tells Jane why she disliks her so much. It is because she is jealous. Jealous that her husband payed so much attention to her as a baby/ It shows how self centered and selfish Mrs. Rood was. She couldnt even share her husbands attention and love with a helpless baby. It shows the evilness she has with in.

I- The author uses a lot of description in this scene. Since JAne is returning to Thornfield , the description is very vivid to make it seem more real. To show a different mood between this one of Thornfield, and that of Gateshead. The vivid description could also make it seem like Jane is returning to a place she loves. A place that she consideres home.

A-First Mr.Rochester tells Jane she has to leave, and then that he wants to marry her.
I- This scene was a little confusing to me when i read it. Its confusing as a reader, becauase he acts contradictory to his words. The love between them has been foreshadowed throught the novel. With the long, deep conversations they have, how shes always there for him whenever he needs her. It is almost like they are falling in love on a mental level, that doesnt care about money or social status.

I- I find it very ironic that Mrs.Fairfax is reading the bible when she hears of the engagement of Mr.Rochester and Jane, it is ironic that she acts so judgemental about the union. The bible is supposed to change you when you read it, but it seems to have had no affect on her. Another thing that caught my attention was, does she think Jane isnt good enough to marry him? if she does thing that,then she is just like everybody else during that time.They were all concerned with social status and making a good match. Even though JAne was extremely intelligent, did she still think Jane wasnt good enough?

I- When important things happedn between Jane and Mr. Rochester, nature always seems to be involved. For example when they first met, when he was on horseback and she was walking. They were outside at night when he proposed to her and now shes afraid of the rain and the wind, she needs his protection from it.

I- This scene is making a comparison of Mr.Rochester's first wife and Jane. He is compating not only their looks but also their personalities. He even calls her crazy and an alcoholic. It is interesting to find out that that is the mystery he has been hiding from Jane and the readers.

I- Mr. Rochester is talking about his past with his first wife it is interesting how the mood switches, at first it is good and happy and lovely, and then the words change, and it shows a darker sad more somber mood. The mood begins to be darker because he doesnt have good feelings for his first wife.

I-These words all support the mood of chaos. I think these words are used to show how Mr.Rochester feels crazy and how he would like to keep Jane by whatever means necessart. I think it is ialso ironic that bertha his "wife" is being locked up in the house. Is he goiung to lock JAne up to keep her too?

I-Bronte seems to be using very descriptive language to describe the setting. The setting is paralleling with the way Jane feels at this point in the story. The scenery around Jane is dirty and sad shes sleeping in a dart hole next to the dirt road. Shes begging for food.The words not only describe the scenery but her also.

I- There are a lot of references to old things. The references were made by using the words newspaper, and ancient. The old fashioned setting shows the people in the house may have traditional valuses.

I- The author is making a reference to the aopstles and how they are very humble and chose to follow Jesus and do what he says. I think he is saying this to make Jane feel like she needs to do what he says to fulfill her Christian duty.

I- Art and things of that nature seemed to impress people quite a lot. Mr.Oliver was even so impressed that he invited Jane over.

A- "he must have been a bad man" observed Mr. Rivers. "You dont know him-dont pronounce an opinion upon him," i said with warmth.
I- Mr.Rivers seemds like he is intentionally talking bad about Mr.Rochester. Probably because he wants Jane to think he is better than him. Hoping she will chose to marry him.

I- It is a little weird how St.Peter thinks he has the right to tell her what she should learn ahd waht she shouldnt. This shows the gender rols that were possed during this time. He saw himself as superior to her, it is shown by him having the audacity to ask her to stop what she is learning and learn what he wants her to learn, because he is learning it too.

A- sealed by marriage. We cannont exist. We do not love eachother. brothers and sisters. You said you would come to India.
I- St.Peter is pressuring Jane to marry him. She realizes that she cant marry him, she cant do it, because she doesnt love him. Shes starting to realize that she couldnt marry Rochester because she would be giving up her morals and being a mistrss, even though she was in love. With St. PEter is is completely opposite, she wouldnt be giving up any morals, but she wouldnt be in love. In the end she choses love. To go back and marry Rochester.
